I’m a homeschool mom, former special education teacher, and reading specialist. I’ve spent two decades helping children unlock the magic of reading. But if there’s one thing my homeschool journey has taught me, it’s that teaching a child to read is deeply personal—no two journeys look the same.
I’ve homeschooled my daughter since preschool, and she’s now in second grade. People often assume she must have started reading at a young age because I’m a reading specialist. But guess what? She didn’t. At age 8, we’re still on this journey together—and that’s okay! This experience has given me an even deeper understanding of what homeschool parents go through when teaching their children to read.
The Best of Both Worlds: Research + Real-Life Homeschooling
As someone with a master’s degree in literacy, National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood Literacy, and specialized training in structured literacy, I know what the research says about how children learn to read. I’ve worked with hundreds of students, taught with a wide variety of curriculums, and seen firsthand what works—and what doesn’t.
But more importantly, I know what it’s like to be in the trenches as a homeschool mom. I understand the doubts, the frustration when progress feels slow, and the joy of watching things finally “click.” That’s why I’m passionate about empowering homeschool parents like you.
I also teach reading at our local homeschool co-op, working directly with families navigating the same challenges. Whether your child is a beginner learning the alphabet, a struggling reader stuck at a plateau, or facing difficulties like dyslexia, I want to help.
You Are Your Child’s Best Teacher
I genuinely believe that parents are their child’s best teachers. You know your child’s strengths and weaknesses better than anyone and can give them the time, attention, and encouragement they need to thrive. The key is having the right tools and support along the way.
That’s why I create practical strategies, actionable tips, and affordable resources to help you teach reading with confidence and joy. Whether you’re looking for phonics support, fluency-building activities, or guidance for struggling readers, you’ll find it here.
Homeschooling doesn’t have to be lonely. Together, we can unlock your child’s reading potential and make learning to read a rewarding adventure!
